How to Type a Heart A method for your keyboard.

Choose the heart first, then the method. A keyboard emoji picker is useful for ❤️; a Unicode symbol or a copied text heart is better when you specifically need ♥ or ♡.

A picker or an exact code

Windows: open the emoji panel

  1. Place the cursor in the destination field.
  2. Press Win + ..
  3. Search for a heart and choose the actual result you want.

Microsoft’s panel includes emoji and symbol sections. A text field or application can still limit which characters it accepts.

Word: use the Unicode value

In Word for Windows, enter 2665, select that code if it follows other hexadecimal-looking text, then press Alt + X. Use 2661 for ♡. This is Word’s conversion method, not an ordinary browser shortcut.

Mac: Character Viewer

Place the cursor, then press Control + Command + Space. Search or browse for a heart and insert the chosen result. Check its exact sequence below if the distinction between ♥ and ❤️ matters.

A traditional Alt-number shortcut

With a numeric keypad, some Windows applications accept Alt + 3 for ♥. Legacy input handling and keyboard hardware can change the result.

Phone keyboards

Pick the heart you actually mean

iPhone and iPad

Tap the emoji or globe key on the standard keyboard, use Search Emoji and select a heart. For plain ♡ or a precise text-style sequence, copy it instead of choosing a visually similar colored emoji.

Android with Gboard

In a text field, open Gboard’s emoji panel and choose a heart. Available artwork and characters depend on device support. Another keyboard can use a different layout; a copied text heart is a useful fallback.

Characters in HTML & CSS

The buttons below copy source code without adding it to your heart history. The adjacent heart button copies the actual sequence. HTML references work when parsed as HTML; they are usually literal text in a name or chat field.

Text heart in CSS content

content: "\2665\FE0E";

For text hearts in a styled document, text color can change the glyph’s color. Colored emoji artwork generally comes from an emoji font; copying a red heart does not attach a CSS color rule.

Questions, answered

How to Type a Heart FAQ

Is there one heart shortcut that works everywhere?

No. Operating systems, applications and keyboards use different input methods. Copying the exact character is a useful fallback when a shortcut is unavailable.

Why does Word accept 2665 but my browser does not?

Word’s Alt+X workflow converts a selected hexadecimal Unicode value into a character. Ordinary browser text fields do not generally provide that Word-specific conversion.

Can the phone emoji keyboard give me plain ♡?

The emoji keyboard is designed for emoji. For the exact outline heart U+2661, copy ♡ or use a character picker that contains it. 🤍 is a different character.

Will HTML entities work in a social-media bio?

Usually a bio is a plain text field. Paste the actual character there. HTML references are source-code syntax for an HTML parser, not a universal keyboard input method.
