Good to know

A few useful details

A color is not a relationship test

There is no universal scale in which a red heart proves love, a yellow heart proves friendship or a purple heart rules either out. The wording, relationship, conversation and shared habits are more informative than color alone.

Distinguish an image from a platform rule

An emoji typed into a message is different from an app-generated badge or status indicator. For a platform’s friendship or reaction rules, consult that platform’s current help; do not transfer those rules to ordinary messages.

Sensitive situations deserve words

For grief, illness or conflict, write a considerate sentence rather than relying on a heart’s color to explain your intent. A broken or mending heart can illustrate a message, but it cannot describe a person’s health or predict a relationship outcome.

Choose by appearance when appearance is the task

A white-and-blue bio or an all-purple caption may use a heart purely for visual consistency. If the distinction is text versus emoji rather than emotion, compare the text-symbol collection and the complete code-point reference.

Questions, answered

Heart Emoji Meanings FAQ

What does a heart from a guy or girl mean?

The sender’s gender does not determine the message. Consider the actual words, your relationship and shared habits. Ask directly if you need clarity.

Are these meanings official Unicode definitions?

No. Unicode defines characters, names and sequences. These conversational readings are examples and cautions, not standardized emotional meanings.

Does the number of hearts change the meaning?

Repeated hearts can add emphasis, but there is no universal number-to-meaning code. Counting them cannot establish romantic intent or how strongly someone feels.

Where can I find a specific heart’s examples?

Follow a completed heart reference in the comparison table. Red, pink, black, white, purple and broken-heart pages include original examples and related combinations.
